Alberta May Kopfer, 97, passed away peacefully June 1, 2026 at the Leonardville Nursing Home in Leonardville, Kansas. She was born in Onaga, Kansas to Albert and Ida May (Godlove) Tessendorf on June 21, 1928, a birthday she shares with her daughter, Nancy.

She married Merlin Kopfer on July 3, 1946 in Manhattan, Kansas. Their early married life was spent living in Riley, Kansas, later purchasing a farm in Clay County where they ran a dairy until November 2010 when they retired and moved to Clay Center. Alberta was a stay at home farm wife; however, she had some other interests of her own and was known as the AVON lady and also dabbled in selling Aubrey costume jewelry. She was a very social person and loved making all kinds of new friends while doing this.

Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin, her parents, four brothers and a grandson, Jacob Grater.

She is survived by her son Larry and his wife, Eunice Kopfer; daughter, Nancy and her husband, David Gonser, all of Clay Center; five grandchildren, Michelle and Kelli Kopfer, Dale and his wife, Diana Kopfer, Courtney and his wife, Jennifer Grater and BryanGonser; nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1230PM until service time on Friday, June 5, 2026 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 5, 2026 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bingo Fund at the Leonardville Nursing Home or to the St. Croix Hospice and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
