Anne Pfizenmaier

Anne Marie (Thompson) Pfizenmaier, 87,  passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor. She was born July 26, 1936 at the Clay Center Hospital. She was the first child of Helen Marsh and Marvin Stevenson. She grew up on the family farm near Idana.

On October 28, 1956 Anne married Duaine Thompson at the Presbyterian Church in Idana.  They were married for 47 years.  Most of their lives together they lived 12 miles north of Clay Center on Highway 15.

Anne’s parents wanted her to go to Clay Center to High School. In those days there were no school buses. Her mother rented her a room in town to stay during the week. Her Mom & Dad drop her off Sunday night and pick her up Friday afternoon. After school she would clean houses for spending money. The summer after graduating from Clay Center Community High School, Anne started working at the ASC office in Clay Center. She continued to work there after marrying Duaine and until her first son was born. Anne then stayed home to raise her family and help on the farm. After her boys were married and moved away she returned to the ASC office. She started as District Secretary and retired in December 2003 as District Manager.

Besides being a mother, Anne was a member of the Fact United Methodist Church and was a very active member of the Methodist Ladies Aid. Anne also drove the school bus for Clay Center public schools for a few years. After retirement she volunteered at the Red Cross & Apollo Towers. Anne joined a quilting group that would gather weekly.

Anne and Duaine lived on the farm until Duaine passed away in 2003. Anne then moved to Clay Center. She married Stanley Pfizenmaier in 2011. She enjoyed being part of a large family with many activities. Stanley and Anne took several trips together, including trips to Germany and Alaska.

Anne was a talented cook, seamstress and bookkeeper. Her kindness towards others was unmatched and her love and loyalty towards her community was admired by all. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends and quilting. Her family and friends would enjoy her marshmallow salad and roast beef on the holidays as well as many other specialties she would whip up in the kitchen.

Survivors include her 2nd husband Stanley Pfizenmaier Sr.; son, Gary Thompson and his wife Karen, of Lindsborg; son, Terry Thompson  and wife Laura, of Talala, OK. 5 grandchildren Leslie Hecker (Gregory) of Lindsborg, KS, Jesse Thompson (Rosie) of Leander, TX, Meaghan Umbarger (Evan), Kylee Harper ( Layne) and Cassie Thompson all of Talala, OK, 10 great grandchildren, and sisters, Louise Ross of Carthage, MO and Linda Schivoni of Overland Park, KS

Anne was also preceded in death by her parents Helen & Marvin Stevenson, Brothers Daniel and Lee Stevenson, and Great Granddaughter Abigail Hecker.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15 from 2-5PM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

A Celebration of Anne’s life will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, October 16 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church.

Interment will be in the Parallel Cemetery in Washington County, Kansas.
