Arlene Reed

Arlene "Mabie" Reed passed away on August 26, 2026, at Leonardville Nursing Home following a short illness.

Arlene was born on March 13, 1928, and was adopted by Blanche Walker and Bill Mabie. She grew up on a farm north of Green, Kansas. Arlene attended grade school in Green and high school in Clay Center.

In 1947, Arlene married Max O'Donnell, and together they had three children: William Marc, Gail Frances, and Patrick Stephen. Arlene and Max later divorced in 1968. In 1971, she married Cleve "Buck" Reed.

Arlene began working for Clay County in the County Engineer's Office in 1961. She retired in 1991 after 30 years of service.

Arlene was a longtime member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Catholic Women's Organization. She shared her love of music by playing the organ for many years at the Church. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her son, William O'Donnell; her husband, Cleve Reed; and her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Hoover.

Arlene is survived by her son, Patrick O'Donnell; daughter, Gail Hileman; son-in-law, Terry Hileman; and stepson, Don Reed. She is also survived by six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Arlene was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 12th at 10:00 am at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, KS.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, September 11 at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM
