Astrid Ingebord Kristina (Carlson) Kisby passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
Astrid, the first-American born daughter of Carl Eric and Augusta Kristina (Jonson) Carlson, was born at home in rural Clifton, Kansas, on August 27, 1913, and lived in that home with her parents, older sister and five younger siblings.
She graduated from Clifton High School in 1930, and earned her license to become a country school teacher, which she did for five years until her marriage to Earl Kisby in 1936. They farmed in the rural Clifton area and after her children were grown, Astrid worked for a medical clinic for twenty years.
To this union were born four children: James (Jim) (Sharon) of Nicholasville, Kentucky; Loren (Judy) of Munden, Kansas; Margery (Paul) Warder of Stanton, Iowa; and Marilyn (Ron) Seymour of Woodstock Valley, Conn.
Astrid was a devoted mother and wife. She taught a Sunday school class at her home church, Brantford Evangelical Covenant Church, for most of her adult life, and helped with Vacation Bible School even up into her 80s. She was also active in various organizations within her community, including one that provided opportunities to write poetry and stories.
Astrid moved from her farm home after 68 years to live next door to her son in Munden for over three years before moving to Stanton Care Center to be near her daughter in Iowa until her death. In each community, Astrid appreciated a wide variety of friendships and especially with those who shared her Christian faith.
She enjoyed traveling to be with family and to have her home open for family and friends.
Astrid was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years who died on June 14, 1983, five siblings, her 14 in-laws and several other relatives and acquaintances whose friendships she cherished.
Astrid is survived by her four children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren and their spouses, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Evert Dean Carlson, relatives in Sweden, nieces, nephews, and innumerable friends and caregivers of all ages whose kindnesses she so thoroughly appreciated.
