Augusta "Gus" Newmeyer

AUGUSTA “GUS” MARIE NEWMEYER, beloved daughter of Joseph and Jill and sister to Jake Newmeyer and Abbey Reed, passed away July 5, 2010 in Houston Tx. She was born May 5, 1987 in Ft. Riley Kansas. Other survivors include grandmother Helen Young of Ardara, PA, grandparents Joseph and Joyce Newmeyer of Elizabeth, PA, Aunts and Uncles, Kim and Bryan Steele of North Huntingdon, PA, Lynn and Bill Francis of New Alexandria PA, Shannon and Mike Priolo of Freedom, PA and Mark Golden of Florida. She is also survived by great aunts and uncles, Rena Tkacik of Ardara, PA, Joyce and Gary Turkovich of New Alexandria, PA, Jerry Newmeyer of Casper WY, Jimmy and Peggy Newmeyer of Cottonwood, CA, 17 cousins and 3 second cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Lorraine Newmeyer, her grandfather Clifford Young and one cousin. Gus was employed by the Computex, Inc. of Houston as a receptionist and accounting clerk. She was attending Houston Community College, completing Criminal Justice courses. She possessed an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from New Mexico Jr. College. She volunteered at a battered women’s shelter in Houston. Among her many accomplishments, she was a 13 time collegiate All American in track and field and cross country. Her teammates and she at Great Plains College of Texas were the 2006 National Champions of Division 1A Cross Country. Gus became an avid surfer and loved the ocean. With her zest of life and enlightened spirit she touched so very many people across the country. She will never be forgotten. Gus would require no formal attire to be worn at the service. Funeral Services: Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
