Barbara Ann Clark, 92, a long-term resident of Clay Center, Barbara recently resided at Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan. She was born in Clay Center on August 5, 1924. Her parents were Elsie (Cowell) and Ernest Held. Barbara worked at her father’s drug store while in high school and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1942. She attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1946 with a degree in home economics education.
She taught in Lenora, Kansas before marrying Buford ‘Boots’ Clark in 1948. They moved to Trenton, Nebraska and then Ulysses, Kansas before returning to Clay Center in 1969. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Buford, son Richard Clark, son-in-law John Cowan, and grandson Timothy Clark.
Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church, Clay Center. She was a volunteer with Red Cross and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a homemaker, played the piano, and sewed and crocheted in her spare time. She loved her family and grandchildren and will be missed.
