BELLE BALFOUR CHAFFEE died October 13, 2008 at Village Manor, Abilene, KS at the age of 90. BELLE BALFOUR CHAFFEE was born on March 31, 1918 in Dickinson County, Kansas the daughter of Robert Palmateer and Agnes Heigle. Belle graduated from CCCHS in 1935. She attended Brown Mackie Busines School in Salina, ks. She worked for the County Extension Office, ASCS Office in Clay Center and the Farmers Home Administration Office in Manhattan. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, BPW, and many camping organizations. Belle and Leonard had a combined family of 7 children. Belle was preceded by her husband Leonard; sons Warren Balfour and Jim Chaffee; a daughter Phyllis Rosenow; one grandson Jay Chaffee. She is survived by sons Gilbert Balfour and Gary Chaffee; daughters Nancy Pifer and Marie Balfour. 19 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Brother: Frank Palmateer, Wakefield, KS Brother: Robert Palmateer, Wichita, KS Brother: John Palmateer, Manhattan, KS Sister: Josephine Steinbruck, Oak Hill, KS Sister: Doris Palmateer, Wakefield, KS Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, Kansas . Officiating the service will be Rev. James Byers and Rev Robert Frasier. Burial will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North of Green KS Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15 from 3-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Presbyterian Church of Abilene or the First Presbyterian Church of Clay Center.
