Bertha Roberts

BERTHA ROBERTS, 83 died October 26, 2014 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, KS. She was born on February 17, 1931 in Brazil, IN. The daughter of Elmer and Bertha (Cassidy) Hayes. Bertha was raised in Louisville, KY. She married Charles D. Roberts, Sr. on July 3, 1948. They lived in several places around the country while Charles was stationed in the US Army. They moved to Clay County in 1969. Bertha drove a school bus for USD 379 for 15 years, retiring in 1988. They moved to Solomon and Bertha worked for Bush's Market for 13 years. Charles, Sr. preceded her in death in January 2001. She returned to Clay Center in 2003. Bertha was a member of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. She is preceded in death by her parents Survivors: Daughter: Theresa and husband Reggie Wilks, Great Bend, KS Son: Charles Jr. and wife Carolyn Roberts, Milford, IN Daughter: Vivian and husband Pat Kurtenbach, Clay Center, KS Brother: Everette Hayes, Jeffersontown, KY Brother: Darrell and wife Sue Hayes, Liberty Township, OH 4 Grandchildren, 2 Step-Grandchildren, 2 Great-grandsons and 2 Step-great-grandsons Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 3-6 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home. No services are planned at this time. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
