BETTY SPURRIER died September 21, 2007 at St. Francis Hosptial, Topeka, KS at the age of 84. BETTY SPURRIER was born on December 13, 1922 in Green, Kansas the daughter of Charles Reboul and Mabel Runkle. Betty Spurrier died on Friday, September 21, 2007 at St. Francis Health Center, Topeka, Kansas at the age of 84. She has lived at Atria Hearthstone in Topeka, Kansas since October of 2002 where she enjoyed the company of the residents and the antics of her cat Bo. She was bron December 13, 1922 in Green, Kansas to Charles and Mabel (Runkle) Reboul, the youngest of five children. Two of the children died as infants. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jane, her brother Kenneth Bubbie, his wife Theda, and a nephew Charles. She is survived by her three nieces Karen Emery of Salina, Kansas, Elizabeth Lemon of Spokane, Washington, and Kay Louise Doyle of Portland, Oregon. After graduating from Green High School, Betty's first job was a a sales clerk at Buchman's Jewlrey Store in Clay Center, Kansas. She then began her long tenure as a telephone operator. she was married to Ray Spurrier for more than 20 years before they divorced. After more than 35 years at the switchboard and assignments in Clay Center and Manhattan, she retired from Southwestern Bell in Topeka as a group manager. Betty had a great love of people that prompted her to devote her off-working hours to helping others. For more than 20 years Betty volunteered her time and good will to the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Topeka with more than 4000 hours of service. Wherever she has lived and worked, co-workers have enjoyed the good humor that Betty spread around. Even in her senior years Betty maintained her reputation as the life of the party. Having no children of her own, Betty became a doting aunt to her nieces and nephew and shared in their joys and accomplishments. She was particularly important in the life of niece Kay Louise for whom she served as a second mother and pal. She will be dearly missed by them and by all who knew and appreciated her quick humor and gracious friendship. A Celebration of Life observance will be held on Friday, September 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Veterans Administration Eastern Kansas Healthcare facility, 2200 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, Kansas. Survivors include: Niece: Kay Louise Doyle, Portland, OR Niece: Karen Emery, Salina, KS Niece: Elizabeth Lemon, Spokane, WA Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation will be held on 4-8PM Friday at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 4-6PM Memorials can be made to Cat Association of Topeka, 1719 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66604 or the Alzheimer's Assn.
