Carl Ray Affolter, 94, of rural Morganville, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2022 at his home with his family present.  Carl was born on December 10, 1927 in rural Morganville to Earl and Celia Gonser.  At the age of 3, Carl was adopted by his maternal grandparents Jacob and Elizabeth Affolter due to the death of his mother.

Carl attended Mulberry Country School through 8 th grade and began farming the family farm at the age of 16.  Over the years Carl worked at GT and Hutchinson Manufacturing in Clay Center, cleaned septic tanks for 40 years and drove a school bus for District 224, Clyde and Clifton.  Many additional jobs over the years included electrical, plumbing and roofing.  There was no job Carl couldn’t handle.

His hobbies included his love to socialize with anyone at any time, a trait that he passed down through the generations.

Carl is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elsie of the home; children, Carlene (Jim) Whitehead of Geneva, NE; Randy (Mariann) Affolter of Clifton; Dave (Cathy) Affolter of Morganville; Dan (Sue) Affolter of Clifton; and Denise (Randy) Shadle of Morganville; 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Irene Huffman; 2 sisters in-law, Darylene Wilder and Ann Worley; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Thursday, January 27 at the Faith United Church Presbyterian in Clifton, Kansas.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, January 28 at the Faith United Church Presbyterian in Clifton, Kansas.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Bloom Cemetery, rural Morganville, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Church Presbyterian or to Meadowlark Hospice and can be sent in care of the funeral home.

Face coverings are required for visitation and the funeral service.
