CHARLES J. BLACK died May 30, 2009 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center,
KS at the age of 77. He was born on November 24, 1931 in Chapman, KS the son of Stirley and
Vernie (Sheely) Black. He grew up in Clay County and served in the U.S. Marines. After the
service he returned to Clay County and farmed. He married Janice Prine on December 2, 1961
and she preceded him in death on October 3, 1998. He worked as a truck driver for Key Milling,
a tool and die maker for Hutchinson Manufacturing and worked for Valley Fertilizer. He also
worked on the grounds and maintenance crew at Clay County Community Hospital. He was a
member of the Idana Presbyterian Church and the Clay Center American Legion.

Son: Steve and his wife, Lucy Black, Wichita, KS
Daughter: Marsha and her husband, Tom Snowdon, Henderson, NV
Son: Tom and his wife, Bea Black, Salina, KS
Son: David and his wife, Jody Black, Linn, KS
Grandchildren: 7 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren
Sister: Doris Knitter, Clay Center, KS
Sister: Lola Staatz, Abilene, KS
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Presbyterian
Church in Idana, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Rev. James Byers.
Burial will be at the Idana Cemetery, Idana, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on will be held from 3-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to may be made to the Charles Black Memorial Fund in care of the
funeral home.
