CHARLES L. "CHUCK" STUART, 92 died October 30, 2015 at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, KS. He was born on May 6, 1923 in Perry, KS, the son of Galen and Lillian (Jones) Stuart. Charles was raised in Perry and graduated from Perry High School in 1941. He attended Emporia State Teachers College before joining the Navy in 1943. Charles served in the Naval Air Corps during WWII. Following the war, he returned to Emporia State and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and later earned his Masters of Science degree. Charles married Marion S'Lee Choate on May 25, 1947. He taught school in Lorraine and Chapman before moving to Clay Center in 1952. Charles became the Clay Center City School superintendent in 1959. In 1965-1966 the county schools unified and he served as USD 379 superintendent until his retirement in 1988. Charles was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lion Club American Legion, Emporia State Alumni Association, ESU Foundation and Masonic Lodge. He was past-president of the Clay County Hospital Foundation and was the first president of the Kansas United School Administrators. He is preceded in death by his parents, his foster parents, Melvin and Una Shoemaker, brother, Gene Stuart Waggoner and sister, Vivian Stuart Survivors: Wife: Marion Stuart, Clay Center, KS Son: Greg and wife Suzann Stuart, Council Grove, KS Foster Brother: Lyle and wife Reona Shoemaker, Topeka, KS Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 1:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, KS Officiating the service will be Rev. Scott Lingle Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, KS Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 from 3-7 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 4-6 PM. Memorials: in lieu of flowers, First Presbyterian Church or Emporia State Endowment Association c/o the funeral home
