Cindy Marie (Schumann) Coupal, 61, of Clay Center, Kansas died Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, KS. She was born April 18, 1957 in Lawrence, KS to John and Fran Schumann, the 2nd of four children. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, brother Mark (age 15), and sister Tonya (age 6), and infant son, Jacob in 1980.
She is survived by James Coupal, her husband of nearly 39 years, daughter Shannon Welton (Jason) of Denver, CO, son Aaron Coupal of Clay Center, and sister Sharee Wiggins (Wayne) of Overland Park, KS.
Cindy loved her husband and children dearly and always made sure they were cared for. Professional nursing was a ministry to her. With the support of her husband and children still at home, she earned a BSN degree in 1996 from Kansas Wesleyan University and successfully passed the RN licensure exam the first time. Her career spanned 20 years in diverse areas which included Critical Care, Emergency Department, Operating Room, Home Health, and running a Rheumatology clinic. She achieved specialty certification in both Pain Management Nursing and Wound Care. She was smart, compassionate, and beloved by her patients wherever she worked.
Mrs. Coupal was a godly woman who loved Jesus and served him with her whole heart. She was always a giver – of tangible gifts, service to others, and of herself. She was an incredibly unselfish person despite decades of pain and increasing functional challenges. Her smile was electric, and her attitude so positive when most would have given up. She will be missed by so many people that she has helped in numerous ways. She leaves an unfillable void on earth, but has been welcomed in heaven by Jesus and those who have gone on before.
