Clarence Leland Urban was born on December 6, 1925 to John and Mary (Gunter) Urban on the Gunter family farm in Cloud County, Kansas. He was the fourth son of eight children. His father passed away when Clarence was 9 years old. He attended school in the Miltonvale and Morganville schools. He left school at the age of 17 to serve in the U.S. Army. His journey began in 1945 on a Victory ship to Japan. He studied mechanics and worked in the motor pool. He served as a guard at Hokkaido for Japanese POW's. He returned to the states on another Victory ship at the end of the war. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
After his return from the war he went to vocational training with the REA (Rural Electric Association) and received his certification. He then returned to farming and this was his vocation until retirement.
He met the love of his life Margery (Roll) at a dance at Bethany Hospital where she was attending school. They dated for 6 years before marrying in 1954. They have been married for 62 years.
He is survived by one son Casey Urban who survives with his wife Janice and two grandsons, Colby and wife Cory and grandson Jacob and wife Sierra. His siblings, Chuck Urban and Scharlotte Knitter and sister-in-law Dorothy Urban. He is preceded in death by his father John, mother Mary, siblings George Urban (Hester), Fred Urban, Alvin Urban (LaDonna), Betty Bechard(Norman) and brother-in-law Joe Knitter.
