Allen Dean King, 89, passed away on June 29, 2015. He was born on September 27, 1925.
The funeral service for Dean King will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, KS at 10:00 AM.
Dean was a WWII veteran having served in the U. S. Navy from 1943 thru 1946. After his military service he attended Kansas State University.
Dean was a retired rural mail carrier with 44 ½ years of federal service. He held national office in the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association having been elected to the offices of Secretary/Treasurer, Committeeman, Vice-President, and President. The last 4 years of office he resided in Washington D. C. He returned to Clay Center after his 4 years in Washington D. C. and continued to deliver the mail until retiring in 1989.
Dean was an avid sports fan. For many years he coached youth softball teams in Oakhill. He had a deep affection for Kansas State University sports having been a season ticket holder for football and basketball for nearly 50 years. He had become active in the Lions club in retirement.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne King, his parents, Clay and Anna King, and his sister, Eunice Pacey.
He is survived by his son Ed King and wife Susan of Colllierville, TN., grandson Jordan King, and great grandson Jaxon King of Gallatin, TN.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 1 from 3-8PM at the Neil-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor or the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center.
