Dorothy Gertrude (Dodson) Gerardy was born on September 28, 1913 to Bert and Della (Caldwell) Dodson on a farm in the Four Mile Community southwest of Clay Center. She died December 18, 2018 in Leonardville, KS at the age of 105 years.
In her youth Dorothy joined and attended the Four Mile United Presbyterian Church. She attended the Pleasant Hill Rural School, graduated from Clay County Community High School, and attended college at Emporia State College and Kansas State University. She then taught eleven years in rural schools in Clay and Ottawa Counties.
On May 15, 1941, Dorothy and Dale Gerardy were united in marriage. They made their home on the Gerardy family farm east of Fact. Three sons were born to this union, Robert Dodson, Harlan Dale, and Marc Edward. In 1976 they left the farm and moved to Clay Center. While living in the Fact Community Dorothy joined the Fact United Brethren Church, later known as the United Methodist Church, where her membership remained until it closed. At that time, she rejoined the Presbyterian Church.
Dorothy was active in the Fact Ladies Aid, Clay County Historical Society, Clay County Area Retired Teachers, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an observer for the National Weather Service for 35 years, first at Fact and later in Clay Center.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Elizabeth Dodson; one brother, Merrill Dodson; a son, Robert Gerardy; and a grandson, John Edward Gerardy.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Georgia Gerardy, Raytown, MO.; two sons, Harlan Gerardy, Gruver, TX, and Marc Gerardy and his wife, DeAnna Gerardy of Green, KS. She is also survived by two grandsons, two granddaughters, seven great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Andree Dodson, of Redwing, MN, other relatives, and a host of friends.
