Dorothy Malene Matson

Dorothy Malene Matson died August 19, 2009 at Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville, KS at the age of 91. Dorothy was born on May 25, 1918 in Green Kansas, the daughter of Carl Swenson and Mamie Dugan. She married Harry Matson on November 17, 1936 and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1997. She was a farm wife, 4-H Leader, sold Avon, worked as a cook at the Longford Restaurant, and drove a school bus. She was a member of E.H.U. She was preceded in death by an infant son, two grandchildren, a sister, Lois, and a brother, Duane. Survivors include: Daughter: Virginia and husband Doug Cox, Manhattan, KS Daughter: Kay and husband John Gifford, Hesparia, CA Son: Douglas and wife Evelyn Matson, Longford, KS Son: Harold and wife Carolyn Matson, Abilene, KS Son: Wayne Matson, Salina, KS Brother: Carl Swenson, Jr, Clay Center, KS Brother: Wendell Swenson, Omaha, NE Sister: Donna Wells, Topeka, KS Sister: Joyce Swanger, Leonardville, KS 10 Grandchildren, 3 Step-Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Step-Grandchildren, and 9 Step-Great Grandchildren Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel in Clay Center, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Pastor Bill Eisele. Burial will be at the Athelstane Cemetery, Clay County, KS. Visitation will be held on 2-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Meadowlark Hospice, Longford United Methodist Church or Kansas Service Dogs in care of the funeral home.
