Edith M. Newell, 95, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Edie was born on November 23, 1916, to Charles and Lydia Potter in Wakefield, Kansas. She graduated from Wakefield High School in 1934 and attended cosmetology school in Frankfort, Kansas. She managed her own beauty shop in Kansas and in her home in South Dakota.
She married Dean Newell in 1937 and later moved to California where their two children were born. After 5 years they returned to Kansas where the couple lived and farmed east of Wakefield for 20 years before moving to South Dakota. They enjoyed the next 36 years farming near Rosholt, South Dakota before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2000.
Edie had a love for music and was an excellent violinist. She was outgoing and always had many friends wherever she lived. She was talented in arts and crafts, enjoyed working outdoors with flowers, and loved entertaining her family and friends in her home. She had a love for the Lord, and one of her highlights for many years was weekly Bible study.
Survivors include two children, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren:

Grandson: Corey and his wife Melina Newell and daughters Marissa and Cienna of Boise, ID
Granddaughter: Paige and her husband Damien Riehl and son Aidan of St. Paul, MN
Granddaughter: Missy Newell of Portland, OR
Grandson: Joe and his wife Holly Anderson and children Trevor and Averee of Rosholt, SD
Grandson: Sam Newell of Boise, ID.
Edie was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her parents, Charles and Lydia; and her two sisters, Sylvia Fyfe and Lola Jones.
Services will be held in Wakefield, Kansas, on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the Wakefield Funeral Chapel at 10:30 a.m. A small service was also held in Las Vegas on May 24, 2012.
Pastor Mike Lacer will officiate the service
Burial will follow in Timber Creek Cemetery, Clay County, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 until service time at the Wakefield funeral home
