Kansas. Respect calls will be Wednesday, November 18 at Turner Funeral Chapel in Clifton
from 5 till 7pm. The funeral will be held at Faith United Church Presbyterian on Thursday,
November 19 at 10:30am.
She was born and raised in Clay Center Kansas. She attended the local schools there. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Alta and William Dunlap and her husband, James Haas, brother
Perry Dunalp and two great Grandchildren.
Willie, as she was known to her many friends, married Sheldon Alquist, Clay Center in August
of 1939. They had two children, Colleen Annette and Danial D. Alquist. On December 17th,
1947 she married James Robert Haas of Clifton Kansas. They also had two children, Connie Lou
and Galen Robert Haas.
During the Course of her life she worked for a short period at a grocery in Clay Center. Later she
was employed at Clifton Community Care Center of Clifton and Park Villa Care Home in Clyde
Kansas. She was a long standing member of the Clifton American Legion Post 227 Auxiliary.
Willie was an avid card player, loved her bridge, pinochle, and plut games. Over the years she
was a member of several card clubs in Clifton. She sometimes had to bid and hope her partner
would bail her out.
She loved her family and was a wonderful mother, friend and defender of her children. She was a
kind and gentle person and someone who put up with the antics of all of us.
She also loved to dance and sometimes preferred 50's rock and roll to some of the music
available at the time. She often came home to borrow my records of Fats Domino, Chuck Berry
and Little Richard. We never knew what the rest of her crowd thought but I was proud of her for
being a little different.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Galen and Jo Dee Haas, Clifton, Connie and Mike
Street, Lincoln Kansas, Colleen and Dean Gill, Newton Kansas, Dan and Carolyn Alquist,
Clifton and her nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and her great-great grandchild.
Donation made in her name will be given to the Clifton Community Care home on your behalf.
