Gary Chaffee

GARY A. CHAFFEE, 78 died November 4, 2014 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, KS. He was born on July 27, 1936 in Riley County, KS. The son of Leonard and Eulah (Bergstrom) Chaffee. Gary was raised in the Green community. He graduated from CCCHS and attended Kansas State University. Gary married Carolyn Hughes on December 19, 1954. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Milford Dam project and served in the Army National Guard for 10 years. Gary was a lifelong farmer and stockman in Clay County and worked as a custom harvester with his family for 15 years. He was a member of the Countryside United Methodist Church where he was active in work camps and mission trips. He is preceded in death by parents and a son,Jay Chaffee, 1 sister, 1 brother and Step-mother. Survivors: Wife: Carolyn Chaffee, Clay Center, KS Son: Rick and wife Marsha Chaffee, Clay Center, KS Son: Mike and wife Trudy Chaffee, Clay Center, KS Daughter: Garla and husband Pat Pierson, Clay Center, KS 19 Grandchildren and 16 Great-grandchildren Sister: Marie Balfour, Abilene, KS Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center, KS. Officiating the service will be Will Kenyon and Butch Lambert. Burial will be in the Gatesville Cemetery, Clay County, KS. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 3-8 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Countryside United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home.
