Gean Nye

NELLIE GERALDINE “GEAN” NYE died September 19, 2010 at Wesley Medical Center , Wichita, KS at the age of 80. She was born on May 27, 1930 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Etta (Haines) Hunt. Gean moved to Clay Center with her family in 1937 and then to Junction City in 1943. She graduated from Junction City High School. Following high school, she worked at Ft. Riley. Gean married Edward Nye, Sr on September 4, 1948, they made their home in Clay Center. She worked at McCartney's and then as the bookkeeper for the family business, C&N Auto Parts for many years. Gean was a member of the United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star where she was past Worthy Matron, Rainbow Girls Advisory Board and Beta Sigma Phi. Survivors include: Daughter: Stephanie and husband Lawrence Avery, Wakefield, KS Son: Edward Nye, Jr, Clay Center, KS Grandchildren: 6 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren Brother: George Hunt, Savannah, GA Sister: Helen Whitmire, Clay Center, KS Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel in Clay Center, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Larry Myers. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Wichita, KS. Visitation will be held on will be from 3-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to may be made to the Gean Nye Memorial Fund or to the organization of the donor's choice and sent in care of the funeral home.
