George Ray Campbell, 87 died May 18, 2024, in Clay Center, KS.  He was born on December 7, 1936, in Concordia, the son of Vern and Dorothy (Duncan) Campbell.  In 1941, they moved to Washington, D.C and then to Denver, CO in 1948.  He was a graduate of the Class of 1954 from Miltonvale Wesleyan High School.  George married Marlene Wilson from Topeka, they later divorced.  He returned to Denver in 1954 and worked in a steel warehouse before joining the Colorado State Patrol in 1963.  In 1973, he made his home in Alamosa, CO and continued working for CSP until his retirement in 1992.  George married Leona “Lee” Franson on December 23, 2006; they have made their home in Clay Center.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Lions Club, active in the Jaycees, served as a boy Scout Master for several years and as a counselor at San Luis Valley Boys Ranch.  George was a founding member of the Colorado Mayflower Critical Incident Team.  They spent several weeks in New York City following 9/11 offering counseling services to NYPD personnel. George also served eight years in the Army National Guard.   He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Verna Gooden.

Step-Daughter: Jeannie Grater and companion Cory Pettit of Clay Center, KS

Sister: Joyce and husband Ron Fessenden of Colorado Springs, CO

12 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren

Funeral Services: 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center, KS

Minister: Rev. Jon Henderson

Burial: Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, Kansas

Visitation: 4-7 PM Tuesday May 21, 2024, from at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home
