GEORGE MERLE URBAN died November 30, 2007 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 89. GEORGE MERLE URBAN was born on July 2, 1918 in Miltonvale, Kansas the Son of John Urban and Mary Gunter. He grew up and attended country schools in the Morganville area. He married Hester Mae Holsted on Septemer 14, 1940 in Clay Center and she preceded him on October 21, 2007. He worked for W.W. Smith and Sons Implements and Skinner Chevrolet as an autobody repairman. He was a life member of the V.F.W., American Legion and D.A.V. and he served as commander and chaplain for all three. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church were he served as Deacon and Treasurer. He was insturmental in the establishment of the Avenue of Flags in the 1960's. He is also preceded by one great granddaughter. Survivors include: Daughter: Linda Walker, Ada, KS Brother: Fred Urban, Clay Center, KS Brother: Alvin Urban, Clay Center, KS Brother: Clarence Urban, Morganville, KS Brother: Chuck Urban, Berryington, KS Sister: Scharlotte Knitter, Clay Center, KS Sister: Betty Bechard, Clifton, KS Grandchildren: 6 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Pastor Brian High. Burial with full military honors will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 3 from 3-8pm with family greeting friends from 7-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Clay Center, c/o funeral home.
