Iona was born June 20, 1927 at Linn, Washington County, KS, and passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson, KS.


Iona was an active member of her church and was proud to play the piano and organ for church services and other special events. While she lived at Wesley Towers and Thorne Care Center in Hutchinson, she played the piano for church services there and sometimes played the grand piano in the foyer of Wesley Towers during meals or just for enjoyment for others.


She was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling with her friends and family. She participated in many State bowling competitions where her daughters Charlene and Lori were often on her team. After moving to a retirement community, Iona continued to enjoy bowling through the video game, WII Bowling. She enjoyed the outdoors, spending many weekends and holidays traveling the area camping and fishing with her family and her beloved dog, Ginger. Some of her other favorite hobbies included horseback riding, reading, embroidery, quilting, crocheting and other stitch crafts.


She married Charles Rand. They later divorced. She married Hoyt Woodbury in August, 1975.


She is preceded in death by her parents Emil and Louise Schwerdtfeger; her sister Norma Jean Schwerdtfeger Lindsey; her husband Hoyt Woodbury; her daughter Charlene Rand Fiedler and her daughter Lori Rand Schaller.


Iona is survived by 11 grandchildren - January Fiedler Phillips, Lucas Schaller, Austin Schaller, Michelle Woodbury, Danille Woodbury, Rachelle Woodbury, Candi Woodbury, Chason Woodbury, Krystal Woodbury, Holly Woodbury and Deedra Woodbury Emel; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.


Visitation will be Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral home in Clay Center, KS, from 4pm-7pm.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Hoyt, at a private graveside service on Friday, May 22, 2020


Memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center, KS, in care of the funeral home.
