J. Ward McMahan

J. Ward McMahan, 88, died Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at his care home in Wichita, Kansas. He was born February 24, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, and was adopted by Byron and Jennie (Milroy) McMahan. Ward was raised in the Clay Center area, attending Idana and Morganville schools and graduated from Morganville High School. During his life he held various jobs including parts man at W.W. Smith and Sons, laid home flooring, co-owned a lumber yard in Burlingame, Kansas and worked as a finisher at Wardcraft Homes before retiring. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and being involved with his church.

Ward is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon McMahan, his parents, his sister, Mary Nelle Seley and his grandson Jase Mounts.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra (David) Hammond, Wichita, KS, grandson Kyle (Ashley) Hammond and two great grandsons, and grandson Cory (Kassidee) Hammond

Daughter, Jill (Kurt) Haberer, Clay Center, KS

Daughter, Stacie McMahan (California) and grandsons Cody, Caiben and Brett.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home
