James "Jim" Coupal

d. September 6, 2025

James “Jim” Lloyd Coupal., 78, was born in 1947 in Wichita, KS and went to his eternal home on September 6, 2025, at St Francis Hospital in Wichita from complications related to injuries sustained in an accident.

Jim, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light and rock in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love and concern for his family, service to his country and an unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on June 26, 1947, in Wichita, Jim joined the Navy right out of high school and spent time on an Aircraft Carrier in the Vietnam War. He got his Electrical Engineering degree at Kansas State University and spent his career as a Civil Engineer on the Fort Riley Army Base. During that time, he married Cindy Marie Schumann, adopted Cindy’s daughter Shannon Conrade and moved to Clay Center where he spent the past 45 years.  In 1980, Jacob Benjamin was born but sadly passed 4 months later. In 1982, Aaron James was born.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy; son, Jacob Michael; parents, Lloyd and Mildred Coupal; and his sister, Sharon Townson.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Shannon Welton (Jason); son, Aaron; and a large loving family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
