Jessie was born on the family farm in Dickinson County to Chester and Clara (Luthi) Tyrell. She attended grade school at Green Ridge School and graduated from Chapman High School in 1949. She was a homemaker and devoted mother to her six children. Jessie enjoyed reading, doing crosswords and bird watching. She would go out every day to feed the squirrels and birds and ensure they were taken care of. Jessie later took on the job as a cook for the Lake View Restaurant in Wakefield and Cedar Court in Clay Center until retirement. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Diana Marie, siblings Ruby Schad, Vera Gfeller, Mary Jane Macy, Emma Lou Phisney, and Donald Tyrell, and son-in-law Robert Laffery.
