Jo Ann was born March 6, 1931 in Clay Center, Kansas to Carl Sr. and Marie (Henry) Pfizenmaier. Jo Ann was raised in Clay County. She attended Green Elementary School through 8th grade and graduated from Morganville High School in 1948. She married James Brown on October 4, 1951. Together, they built their home in Clay Center, Kansas in 1953. Jo Ann enjoyed sewing, gardening and bird watching. She would plant specific flowers to feed the birds she enjoyed. She was also an accomplished cook and used several recipes from the Pfizenmaier family cookbook, baked beans were her specialty. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Arlene Carlson; sister in law, Maxine Pfizenmaier and brother in law, Charles Mellies.
