Juanita Mae Peter 99 passed away July 23, 2018 at the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, Kansas. She was born July 13, 1919 in Barnes, Kansas to Harry and Jessie Hill. She married William (Bill) Peter on June 20, 1942 in Lawton, Oklahoma. William passed away March 27, 2007. They had two sons, Larry (deceased) and Veryl while residing in Randolph, Kansas.Juanita was a teacher her entire adult life. She began her teaching career at Gamefork School and then taught first and second grade at Randolph Elementary. From there, she taught first grade in Wamego. After moving to Clay Center, she taught at Hebron in a one room school and at Fairview which was a two room school. She finished her career at Morganville Elementary. She was an avid reader and loved traveling and exploring her genealogy. Juanita and Bill took numerous trips to visit relatives and was able to compile several notebooks on the Hill and Peter family history. Juanita was a mild-mannered person and very considerate of other people and possessed a great sense of humor. Church was important in her life and she was a member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church for over 65 years and the Joy Cluster.Survivors include son, Veryl and Loretta Peter of Topeka, grandchildren Jeff (Mary) Peter, David (Daizy) Peter, and Michelle (Nick) Cairns all of Topeka. Juanita had seven great grandchildren, Kyle, Kayla, Serena, and Raina Peter, Ethan and Matthew Kipp, and Ashlynn Cairns. Juanita was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Wymond Hill, and one sister Dolly Hyland.Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home Clay Center, KS with Herb Mugler officiatingVisitation: Saturday, July 28, 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral homeMemorials to the Clay Center United Methodist Church or the Clay Center Zoo Improvement Project c/o the funeral home.
