LeRoy A. Gingles, 84 died Monday evening May 11, 2009 at his home in Clay Center. Mr. Gingles was born February 5, 1925 at rural Clifton the son of Ralph Wright Gingles and MAry Blanche Gingles. LeRoy enlisted in the Navy on his 17th birthday, serving on the Hospital Ship U.S.S. Relief during WWII and was honorably discharged December 25, 1945. He has been a member of the American Legion for 64 years.
He worked for over 25 years for the Clay Center Farmers Union COOP. retiring in 1987. He married Emajane Devore on May 3, 1947 at Belleville. LeRoy and Jane moved to Clay Center in 1955. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, BPOE #2253 for 38 years, Clay Center Leisure Club Supervisory Committee for C&R Credit Union and board member of the Clay County Wakefield Park Board. He coached little league baseball for over 10 years, leader for Cub Scout Pack 55, Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 54, adult Scout Trainerfor the Jayhawk Area Council for over 15 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carl, Lloyd, Merle and Rex and half-sister Joyce.
LeRoy is survived by hie wife of 62 years, Jane of the home, one daughter Jeanette Hupe and husband Norman of Wamego, three sons, Darrell and wife Lisa of Clay Center, David of Morganville, and Douglas and wife Betty of Grove , OK, two sisters, Wilma Peterson of Clay Center and Ruth Erich and husband Kenneth of Abilene, sister in law, Gladys Fletcher of Marysville and step mother, Christine Cooper of Belleville, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services: Friday, May 15, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the
Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel in Clay Center, Kansas.
Minister: Rev. Larry Myers
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation:3-8PM Thursday at the funeral home. The family will greet friends
from 5-7PM
