Lorenzo "Butch" Morgison

LORENZO BUTCH MORGISON died December 12, 2009 at Community Care Inc., Clifton, KS at the age of 104. He was born on March 27, 1905 in Clifton, Kansas the son of Frank Morgison and Ida May Rand. L.D. Butch Morgison attended school at Palmer and Clifton and graduated from Clifton High School in 1923. He worked at the Toy Shop, pipeline construction, movie theater and the City of Clifton. He married Leota Schurrof Luray, KS on October 12, 1937 in Washington State while picking apples. Butch entered the army in November 1942 and served in the 151st signal corps, 11th Armored Division, serving in England, France and Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in August 1945. He did electrical workuntil 1947 when he became a substitute mail carrier. In 1950 Butch was appointed Post Master of Clifton. He held this position until his retirement in 1972. He served as weatherman for Clifton for over 50 years. Butch was a member of Faith United Church Presbyterian, American Legion Post #227, Life member of Eastern Star and the Masons. He also served on the Clifton Fire Department. Butch loved children and up to his death, spocsored two children through Christian Children Assn. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Leota. Survivors include: Cousin: Opal and husband Homer Naumann, Clifton, KS Sister in Law: Arleta and husband Gordon Bland many cousins and a host of friends Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Faith United Church Presbyterian in Clifton, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Pastor FrankLyn Schroeder. Burial will be at the Clifton IOOF Cemetery, Clifton, Kansas. Visitation will be held on 5-7 PM Wednesday at the church Memorials can be made to Faith United Church or Community Care Inc.
