Lorraine Cowell

LORRAINE COWELL died July 16, 2009 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 74. LORRAINE COWELL was born on February 15, 1935 in Wakefield, KS the daughter of Norman Sparrowhawk and Lorena Gaston. She was raised inthe Wakefield Community and attended Wakefield High School. She married Clayton Cowell on September 15 ,1951 and he preceded her on April 2, 1990. She owned and operated the Cowell Auto repair with her husband and also worked as a cook. She was a member of the Madura Congregational Church serving as the treasurer and organist. She was president curator of the Wakefield Museum and helped start the Wakefield Birding Festival. She was preceded by a brother, Stanley. Survivors include: Daughter: Pamela Ackley, Burdick, KS Son: Douglas and wife Shelly Cowell, Afton, WY Son: Rex and wife Michelle Cowell, Wakefield, KS Daughter: Christine and husband Bill Weir, Clay Center, KS Brother: Alan Sparrowhawk, Lakewood, CO Grandchildren: 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Madura Congregational Church in Wakefield, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Pastor Todd Britt. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery, Wakefield, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20 from 5-8pm at the Wakefield Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Madura Congregational Church or the Wakefield Museum c/o funeral home.
