M. JEAN HANSON died February 26, 2012 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center,
KS at the age of 93. She was born on May 26, 1918 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Carl and Bess
(Davis) Nelson.
Jeane was raised in Chicago, IL before moving to Clay Center with her family. She
attended school in Clay Center from 6th grade until her junior year of high school when the
family moved to Junction City. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1937. Jeane
married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Hanson of Clifton KS on September 10, 1939.
They farmed south of Clifton until Raymond retired and they moved to Clay Center. She worked
at Pearl's and Kegs ladies dress shop. Raymond preceded her in death on March 21, 1991. Later,
Jeane married Wayne Hammel on February 17, 1996 and he preceded her on May 30, 2008.
Jeane was a member of the Clifton Presbyterian Church before transferring her membership to the
First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, the Willing Helpers Club, Happy Hour Club, 4-H
project leader, American Red Cross and blood mobile member and Vice Regent of the D.A.R.
She is also preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.

Daughter: Sandra and husband Dean Esslinger, Baltimore, MD
Son: Chuck and wife Debra Hanson, Kansas City, KS
Son: Richard Ray and wife Linda Hanson, Shawnee, KS
Six Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the
Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel in Clay Center, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Rev. James Byers.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on 9:00 AM Saturday until service time
Memorials can be made to Clay Center Public Utility Commission, with “Zoo Improvements” on
memo line c/o the funeral home
