MARCUS OLIPHANT, 85 died September 4, 2014 at Pinnacle Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in Salina, KS. He was born on June 8, 1929 in Offerle, KS. The son of George and Marie (Rabe) Oliphant.
Marc was raised in Offerle, KS and graduated from Offerle High School. He married Phyllis Garman on August 27, 1950 in Courtland, KS. Marc earned a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture from Ft. Hays State in 1951. He was drafted into the US Army in July 1951 and served in the Signal Corps in the Korean War, earning the Bronze Star. Marc returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and his teaching certificate from Kansas State University in 1955. Later, he earned his Masters Degree in Agriculture from Kansas State University in 1957.
Marc taught Vocational Agriculture at Lacrosse, KS in 1956/57. From 1957-1962 he taught Industrial Arts and Vocational Agriculture at Hoisington, KS. In 1962, Marc began working for the Barton County Extension Office as the Assistant County Agent. In 1965 the family moved to Clay Center and Marc became the purchasing agent for Hutchinson Manufacturing. Eventually, he became the General Manager/President before retiring in 1989. Marc then worked as a consultant for Steel and Pipe Supply in Manhattan. Marc was a member of the United Methodist Church, Methodist Men's Club, Lions Club, Milford Lake Assn. board, Scout Master and FFA sponsor. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife,Phyllis, 1 brother and 1 sister

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center, KS
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, KS
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 3-8 PM with family greeting friends from 6-8pm at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home
