MARIAN LUCILLE BUTTON died July 1, 2013 at Stoneybrook Retirement
Community, Manhattan, KS at the age of 82. She was born on October 15, 1930 in Topeka
Kansas, the daughter of R.M. “Susie” and Lucille (Rose) Sears.
Marian graduated from Topeka High School in 1948 and Kansas State University in 1951. She
married Donald J. Button on December 28, 1950 in Topeka and within a few years began her
long and successful career as a homemaker and mother. They lived in Newton for 23 years where
she was active in Republican politics, an elected 1976 delegate and 1988 alternate delegate to the
Republican National Convention, a 1984 Presidential Elector and served as a Newton City
Commissioner and was Mayor in 1983. In 1988 she and her husband moved to Clay Center.
Marian was a member of the United Methodist Church. She served on the Presbyterian Manor
Advisory Board, Clay County Arts Council, Clay County Hospital Foundation, Republican
Women and was a life member of the K-State Alumni Association.

Son, Daniel J. Button and wife Cheryl of Jacksonville Beach, Florida
Son, John C. Button and wife Heather of Jackson, Tennessee.
Three grandchildren, Charles Renz and wife Sandi of Salina
Deambra Renz of Overland Park
Ashley Gaskins and husband Greg of Overland Park.
Four great-grandchildren, Lucas and Parker Renz of Salina
Gregory and Gabriella Gaskins of Overland Park.
Brother-in-law, Tom Skinner of Clay Center
Sister-in-law, Bette Gallie of Durham, North Carolina
Sister-In-Law, Marilyn Trotter of New Field, New York. .
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist
Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Pastor Ryan Lynch and Herb Mugler.
Visitation will be held on 3-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will greet friends
from 5 to 6 PM.
