MARY LOU SLAUGHTER, 61 died August 15, 2007 at her residence in Clay Center, KS. She was born September 18, 1945 in Clay Center,Kansas the daughter Lloyd and Virginia (Marshall) Starkweather. Mary Lou graduated from CCCHS in 1963. She earned a BA degree in Elementary Education and Speech Pathology from Wichita State University. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Iowa. She worked in the Fresno County School District in California and then worked as an SLP for the Community Speech and Hearing Center in Enid, Oklahoma.She has two children from her first marriage, Luke Jenks, and Temry Jenks Melendez. Mary Lou married Doug Slaughter in Bend, Oregon on May 9, 1987. She was employed by the Crook County School District for 11 years. They made their home in Bend until the fall of 2004, when Doug and Mary Lou moved to Clay Center. She was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority, P.E.O. Sisterhood and the NEA Study Club. She and Doug attended the Evangelical Covenant Church in Clay Center. She is preceded in death by a step-daughter, Kristen Slaughter Kennedy. Minister: Pastor David McCowan, Pastor Glenn Tombaugh, Pastor Grant Clay Burial: burial will be held Friday, August 24, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation:Thursday, August 23 from 3-8 PM at the funeral home, the family will greet friends from 4-6PM. Memorials: Clay County Hospital Foundation or Meadowlark Hospice c/o the funeral home.
