Lenna "Maxine" (Angelo) Haist died peacefullyin her sleep on August 4, 2014. She was born on September 15, 1917 in Oak Hill, KS to James and Lily (Hannah) Angelo. She was the youngest of seven children- all which preceded her in death. They are; Ira Angelo, Hazel Jagger, Viola Fyfe, Cleo Stevenson, Aurel Arterburn and Pearl Henry. Maxine was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Conro Haist. They were both graduates of Miltonvale Rural High School in 1937. Maxine became a Navy bride in May of 1942. In 1964, Henry retired and the returned to Miltonvale. To this union they had two children; Ernest Ray and Sharol JoAnn. Ernest and his wife Linda have two daughters; Tina Rae and Erin Lynn. Sharol and her husband Lloyd also have two daughters; Terri Ann and Michelle Lynn. Maxine also has eight great-grandchildren. Barbara Copple of Lawrence, was a special niece who helped with every aspect of Maxine's later years. Maxine taught school, became a Navy wife, mother and nurse's aide in Concordia. She prepared meals for the Senior Citizens in Miltonvale before retiring to Miltonvale Manor. She ejoyed quilting, sewing and other crafts.
