MERLE D. SCHMALE, 84 died November 9, 2014 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, KS. He was born on June 7, 1930 in Clay County, KS. The son of Edwin and Ruth (Laflin) Schmale.
Merle moved to the Palmer community in 1938 with his family. He farmed in the Palmer area all of his life, raising hogs and cattle. He married Kay Young on September 2, 1956 and she preceded him in death on September 23, 2002. Merle served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed going to his grandkids school and sporting events.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer and a 60 year member of the Palmer American Legion. He is preceded in death by preceded by 3 brothers, Leo, Orn Dale, and Dwaine and a sister, Nola.

3 Great grandchildren: Carson Goebel, Aubrey Goebel and Leah Ryan

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 10:30AM at the St Pauls Lutheran Church in Palmer, KS.
Officiating the service will be Pastor Tom Sahl.
Burial will be in the St Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Palmer, KS.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 3-8PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
