MYRTLE HOUSER died February 13, 2013 at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center, Salina, KS at the age of 92. She was born on September 26, 1920 in Hoisington, Kansas the daughter of George Albert and Lourein (Whiteman) Field. Myrtle graduated from Haven Rural High School in 1938. She had various occupations before marrying Paul Leon Phillips in 1941. They made their home in Russell until Paul’s death in 1953. She then moved to Wichita and was one of the first women welders at the Boeing Aircraft Company. Myrtle then married Alfred Houser and they farmed near Centerville, IA. Alfred preceded her in death in 1997. Myrtle moved to Clay Center in 1998. She was a member of the Clay Center Leisure Center, Red Hats, Classy Lassies, Friendshp Club and a volunteer for Red Cross blood drives. Myrtle is also preceded in death by a son, Kelly Houser in 1980, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include: Son: Kim Phillips, Littleton, NC Daughter: Kayla and husband Larry Ernsting, Clay Center, KS Daughter: Kendra and husband Frank Thacker, Walterboro, SC Son: Mark and wife Cindy Houser, Des Moines, IA Daughter: Jan and husband Mike McMillen, Catlettsburg, KY Daughter: Terri and husband Joe Laughlin, Macon, MO Grandchildren: Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren Step-Son: Bob and wife Margaret Houser, IA Step-Son: Keith and wife Shirley Houser, IA Step-Daughter: Sue and husband Wayne Schwilling, Strong City, KS Step-Daughter: Lorraine and husband Mack Binkley, Moravia, IA Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel in Clay Center, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Pastor Paul Tessaro. Visitation will be held on Monday, 3-8 PM at the funeral home Memorials can be made to Clay Center Leisure Center, First Baptist Church or St. Paul Lutheran Church c/o the funeral home
