NORMAN RETTIG, 81 died March 7, 2016 at Medicalodge in Clay Center, KS. He was born on December 1, 1934 in Hanover, KS, the son of Martin and Hilda (Allerheilgen) Rettig.  Norman was raised in the Hanover community and graduated from Hanover High School.  He served in the US Air Force from 1953 to 1957.  Norman married Mary Lou Croan on June 21, 1959.  They made their home in Nebraska while Norman worked for Allied Chemical.  They moved to Clay Center where Norman owned and operated Rettig Oil Company until his retirement.  He was a member of the American Legion and St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served on the church trustee board as secretary and chairman.  Norman was a volunteer for the Clay Center Fire Department, Chief of the Clay Center Rural Fire Department and was head of the sideline chain gang for CCCHS football games.  He was preceded in death by Mary Lou on January 27, 2015, his parents, two brothers, Orville and Merlin and a sister in law, Lula Croan. Norman is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center, KS. Officiating the service will be Pastor Paul Tessaro. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, KS. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 3-8PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or Clay Center Rural Fire Department and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
