Phil Parsons

d. April 8, 2025

Phil Parsons, 84, of Wakefield, Kansas, joined the love of his life, Sandy, in heaven on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.  Phil was born October 27, 1940 in Anthony, Kansas, where he grew up and spent the early years of his life.  He attended the University of Kansas and was an avid Jayhawk basketball fan.  Phil later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving in Vietnam.  Phil loved his country.

Returning home after the service, Phil completed his education by attending Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, becoming a licensed funeral director and embalmer.  In 1970, Phil purchased the Grubb Funeral Home, moving his family to Ellsworth.  He later added Parsons Industries, Parsons Vault Company and The Stiles Funeral Home of Wilson, Kansas.

Phil was always very active in the communities where he lived.  HE enjoyed working with young people through 4-H, Scouts, baseball and Federation Wrestling.  He was a charter president of Ellsworth Kiwanis Club, life member of VFW and American Legion of Ellsworth and American Legion Riders of Salina.

After his first wife passed, he married Sandy Meyer and upon retirement in 1991, they moved to the Phoenix area where he enjoyed playing golf every day.  Then, in 2000 they moved to Salina to be near family and friends. In 2023, with failing health, they moved to Wakefield to live with their daughter.  Phil became known in Wakefield as “Pops” and enjoyed coffee with the boys.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Bond and grandson, Allan Bond; sons, Mark and Greg and many grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother “from another mother”, Larry Quinn, a very treasured friend.

He is preceded in death by Sandy, his loving wife of 34 years, his parents and sister, Patricia Decker.

Private graveside services were held at the Highland Cemetery in Wakefield, Kansas with military honors presented by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Landscape Arboretum and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
