REV. GARY HOWARD APPLETON, 74 died April 11, 2009 at his home in Clay Center, KS. He was born November 28, 1934 in Green,Kansas, the son of Charles and Lula (Whitaker) Appleton. He was raised in the Green Community and graduated from Green Rural High School in 1952. He worked for Swift and Co. in Clay Center before joining the US Air Force in 1955. He married Ann Munson on July 29, 1955, she survives of the home. Gary was stationed at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base. He worked in a civil service position at Richards-Gebaur before returning to active duty from September 1961 until August 1962. He served as pastor at churches in Blairsville, Medford and Cleveland, MO. Gary later served as pastor in Potwin and Mayfield, KS. He graduated from Southwestern College in 1967. He also served at churches in Troy and Severance. He graduated from St. Paul Seminary School in Kansas City in 1970. He served as minister for Methodist Churches in Mankato, Hugoton and Lyons, KS. In 1998 he became the minister for Miltonvale Methodist Church and Mt. Liberty Methodist Church. He retired in June 2008. He was a member of the Kansas West Conference for the United Methodist Church and the Lions Club. He is preceded in death by one son Mark Allen in 1978. Survivors Wife: Ann Appleton, Clay Center, KS Son: Stephen and wife Ann Appleton, Ashland, NE Son: Andrew and wife Sanne Appleton, Alexandria , VA Sister: Peg Martin, McPherson, KS Brother: Don and wife Dreda Appleton, Green, KS Grandchildren: 7 Grand Funeral Services:Tuesday,April 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Clay Center, Kansas. Minister:Pastor Glenn Tombaugh Burial:Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation:3-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 4-6 PM Memorials: Meadowlark Hospice or the Clay Center United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home
