Robert Harrison Long, beloved husband, father, uncle and grandpa, age 80, died on October 21, 2018, at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, Kansas. He was born in Lincoln, NE, on 9/29/38, son of Horace and Myrtle (Bouchard) Long. Following high school graduation, he served a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy. Then he attended the University of Nebraska, and later Kansas State University. His career was in sales, marketing and management, in the jewelry, food service and wholesale products fields. After he retired from his career field, he continued to work at Ray's Apple Market, then Garfield School, and most recently as business manager for Long Law Office, L.L.C., now Long, Bolton & McNish, LLC.He was preceded by his parents, siblings Margaret McGinnis, Dorothy Knox, Norma Fleisher, Fred Long, Dorothy Boast, and Horace Long, Jr.; son Robert H. Long, Jr.; nephew Tom McGinnis; and niece Nancy Kail.He is survived by his wife Donna J. Long of the home in Clay Center; son Joseph Long, Clay Center; daughter Lisa Coy, Bonita Springs, FL; sister in law Barbara Gearhart (Douglas) of Clay Center, KS; nephews Master Sargent Christopher Droegemueller (Val) of Fayetteville, N.C., Andrei Obolenskiy (Dasha), Pleasant Hill, CA, William Fleisher (Kristin) Lincoln, NE; Mark McGinnis, Elgin, IL; Scott Knox, Rockford, IL, and Michael Long, of Placerville, CA; nieces Janet Powell, Lincoln, NE; Laura Offerman (Fred), Council Bluffs, IA; Diana McGinnis, Lincoln, NE; Marilyn Kruger (Dennis) Lincoln, NE, Stephanie Ernesti (Dave), Lincoln, NE; and Jeanne Long of Rancho Cordova, CA; and grandchildren Robert H. Long, Ill, Ladson, S.C.; Chelsea Arpin, Mancelona, Michigan; Joseph Long and Zachary Long of Maryville, TN; and five great grandchildren; several great nieces and nephews, and many friends.He was a member of Elk's, America Legion, Clay Center Country Club, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he currently served as Lay reader, altar guild member and Treasurer, and delivered backsnacks to the schools, and previously served on the Church Vestry and as Senior and Junior Warden.He was cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Clay Center, KS on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or CCARE (animal shelter).
