ROGER CHESTNUT died August 14, 2013 at Medicalodge, Clay Center, KS at the age
of 88. He was born on May 30, 1925 in Clay Center Kansas, the son of Nevin and Helen (Tate)
Chestnut.
Roger grew up in Clay Center and graduated from CCCHS in 1943. He served in the
U.S. Army during WWII. Roger worked for Reed Engineering in South Dakota and Nebraska.
He married Mary Mitchell on April 15, 1951 and she survives. The couple moved back to Clay
Center in 1960 and Roger worked for Simlo and Hutchinson Manufacturing. He then worked as
a custodian at Lincoln Elementary and later as a bus driver before retiring in the mid 1990s.
Roger was a member of the Clay Center Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his
parents; two brothers, Clayton and Clifford Chestnut; and a son in-law, Tom James.

Son: David and wife, Lorna Chestnut, Salina, KS
Daughter: Cindy James, Clay Center, KS
Son: Kent and wife, Barb Chestnut, Clay Center, KS
Grandchildren: 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren
Sister: Nellis Shaw, Topeka, KS
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Presbyterian
Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Rev. James Byers.
Burial will be at the Republican City Cemetery, Clay Center, KS.
Visitation will be held on There will be no visitation.
Memorials can be made to may be made to the Clay Center Presbyterian Church and sent in care
of the funeral home.
