RUDOLPH "SAM" WINTER, 96 died October 19, 2014 at Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, KS. He was born on February 22, 1918 in Palmer, KS. The son of Conrad, Sr and Magdelena (Harneit) Winter. Sam was raised in the Palmer community. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After being discharged, Sam lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and worked at the Roberts Dairy. He married Ruth Wertz on May 30, 1948 in Lincoln and the couple returned to the Palmer Community to farm. Sam also worked at the Linn Creamery and as a welder at Hutchinson-Mayrath and Gilmore-Tatge. The couple moved into Palmer in 1996. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Palmer American Legion. Sam was preceded in death by his wife Ruth on November 24, 2013, one grandson, six brothers and three sisters. Survivors: Son: Steve and wife Ranelle Winter, Aurora, CO Son: Tom and wife, Annette Winter, Manhattan, KS Son: Randy Winter, Manhattan, KS Son: Scott and wife Beverly Winter, Manhattan, KS 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren Brother: Norman Winter, Flush, KS Sister Elfrieda Burns, Lakewood, CO Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:00AM at the St Pauls Lutheran Church in Palmer, KS Officiating the service will be Pastor Tom Sahl Burial will be in the St Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Palmer, KS Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 3-8PM family will greet friends from 6-7:30 at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home Memorials: may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
