Sarah Oliver

d. November 10, 2025

Sarah Catherine Oliver of Clay Center, Kansas, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Sarah was born in Brandenburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Dempster) Bailey. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie Carol Webb; her parents; seven brothers — Tony, Mobley, Robert, Joe, and Henry McMillen, and Eze and Paul Bailey — and two sisters, Susie Cartwright and Della Elmore.

Sarah grew up in the hollers of Hardin County, Kentucky, where she attended school and formed lifelong memories with her siblings.

She married Samuel Webb, and from that union were born five children: the late Bonnie Webb, Dennis Webb of Radcliff, KY, David Webb (Geri) Clay Center, KS, Susan Webb, Clay Center, KS, and Cathy Cooper (Jeff) Ellsworth, KS. She later married John Davis Hoffman, and they had one son, John Hoffman (Stephanie) Dearborn, MI. Sarah was also the mother of Paul Daniel Hyman.

In 1977, Sarah moved her family to Clay Center, Kansas, to be near her eldest daughter, Bonnie. While there, she met and married Elton Hess. Bonnie passed away on January 1, 1984, and Elton the prior year in October 1983. Following their passing, Sarah lovingly took custody of Bonnie’s three children — Michael Dale Monasmith (Carole) Radcliff, KY; Tonya Noll and (Steve) Columbus, Ohio; and Kelly Quintin (Todd) Cecilia, KY — and moved with them and her son John back to Cecilia, Kentucky. She then met and married Lemuel Oliver. He passed away and she returned to Kansas.

Sarah was blessed with a large and loving family. She leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She cherished every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her home was the heart of many holiday gatherings.

Sarah held many dear friendships throughout her life, including special bonds with late Rebecca Webb, and Wade Spurlin Sr. who she loved like her own children.

She was a devoted Christian woman and a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church in both Kentucky and Kansas. Sarah loved life and loved people — she had a green thumb and took pride in her garden, enjoyed attending garage sales and auctions, and always found joy in discovering a good bargain. She also delighted in sharing stories from her youth in Kentucky, often laughing as she recalled the adventures and antics she shared with her brothers and sisters.

Sarah’s life was full of love, faith, and family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
