Sheila Steenbock, 72, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born October 26, 1946 in Sterling, Kansas, the daughter of Wilber and Gail (Skinner) Wilkey. Sheila was raised on a farm near Sterling and graduated from Nickerson High School in 1964. She attended Sterling College for one year and then transferred to Wichita State University, graduating in 1968. She took a teaching position in Clay Center, KS, which is where she met her soon-to-be husband, Robert “Bob” Steenbock in 1970. They were married at Sterling Reformed Presbyterian Church in Sterling on July 17, 1971. She taught school at Lincoln and Garfield Elementary Schools until she and Bob started their family in 1976, which is when she became a homemaker. In the early 1990s, she started her own craft business, Kansas By Design, which she was still operating.


She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert Steenbock; two sons, Andrew Steenbock and wife, Rachel, of Topeka, KS, and Dustin Steenbock and wife, Shelly, of Manhattan, KS; six grandchildren, Braden and Addy (Andrew & Rachel), and Emerson, Hudson, Henley, and Heidi (Dustin & Shelly); sister, Zetta Anderson and husband, Jim, of Oakdale, MN and brother, Sam Wilkey and wife, Sue, of Wichita, KS; brother-in-law Bill Steenbock Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Longford, KS, sister-in-law Irene Schoneweis and husband, Wilbur, of Wichita, KS, sister-in-law LaDonna Kamphaus and husband, Tyrone, of Idana, KS; and several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilber and Gail Wilkey, and her brother, Harry Wilkey.


Memorial services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, Clay Center, KS with Pastor Scott Lingle officiating.


A graveside service will follow at Athelstane Cemetery, Longford Rd., Clay County, KS.


The family will receive friends Friday, December 7, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. to at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center, KS.
