Her life began on October 5, 1926, when she was born to Harry and Neva (Stout) Turner. She was raised in the Vine Creek area near Longford, Kansas alongside her siblings, where she learned the values of faith, family, and hard work. Shirley married the love of her life, Paul D. Bronson Jr., on August 18th, 1946. which began a life together traveling and enjoying each other, side by side, loving her role as a homemaker and together raising their family. On their farm south of Miltonvale, she worked with the animals, loved gardening, canning, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, attending her church and teaching Sunday School. One of the things she treasured most was spending time with her siblings.
Paul preceded her in death on October 18, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fern and Waine Turner and sister June Buche and her nephew, Kevin Turner and son in law, Jon Nelson
Shirley is survived by her children:
Son: Dana (Sherie) Bronson of Abilene, Kansas, and their family:
Jason (Maleaha) Bronson of Solomon, Kansas and their children Jayden, Hunter, Hayden and Annalea;
Toni (Clint) West of St. George, Kansas and their children Emma and Lincoln;
Paul (Lauren) Bronson of Maize, Kansas and their children Hunter, Lyla, Kaden, Isabelle and Olivia;
Nicholas (Cassandra) Bronson of St. George, Kansas and their children Liam, Penelope and Rush;
Catherine Bronson (Ryan) of Stagecoach, Texas and their children Stella and Wyatt.
Daughter: Karla Nelson of Bennington Kansas, and her family:
Brian Nelson and family
Jessica (Joshua) Roy and children, Destiny, Jacey, Dalton and Zayne
Her brother and sister-in-law, Doyle (Doris) Turner of Salina and her sister-in-law Dorothy Turner of Clay Center and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley will be remembered by many for her kindness, quiet strength, and deep love for her family. And if you knew her well, you knew she never believed in nicknames—everyone was lovingly called by their given name, whether you liked it or not. Her legacy lives on through the generations she cherished so dearly.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the F.C. Hill Memorial Wesleyan Church in Miltonvale, KS
Burial will be in the Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, Kansas
Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Phelps Funeral Home
