Twila Mae Reed 89, died Saturday, December 14, 2024, in Clay Center, KS. She was born on January 1, 1935, in Clifton, KS. to Elwin and Gladys (Bloom) Nelson. She was number 8 of 18 children. She was raised in Clay Center by her grandparents Albert and Laura Bloom as she had asthma and needed to be near a doctor.

Twila graduated from Clay Center High School in 1953. She married Donald Reed, April 22, 1956, and they celebrated 68 years together. Twila worked as the secretary at First Presbyterian Church for 20 years, then she went into banking, working at Union State Bank, Northwestern Federal Savings and Loan, Peoples National Bank, and retired in 2012 from United Bank and Trust.

Twila was a devoted lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church where she was baptized, served as an Elder and Deacon. She was a member of Presbyterian Women and church treasurer for many years.  She was a 50 plus year member of Beta Sigma Phi and a member of Pilot Club. She and Don enjoyed square dancing with Piotique Promenaders, she also bowled for many years.

Twila was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Dwight, Marlin, Ronald, Merrill, Carroll, Darrell, Wendell, and Terry Nelson. Sisters: Delores Norton, Mona Lee Patrick, Vivian Samford, Diane Kelley, and baby Nelson.

Survivors: Husband, Donald Reed, Clay Center, KS. Brother, Larry Nelson, Manhattan, KS. Sisters: Shirley Ham, Clay Center, Ks., Sue Smith, Townsend, TN, Sharon Kenney, Lenexa, KS. Stepbrother, Robin Nelson, California Numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4-7 pm Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday December 19, at the First Presbyterian Church, Clay Center.  The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/fpcclaycenter

Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Meadowlark Hospice c/o the funeral home
