Tyler J. Pendergast, 24, born and raised in Kansas City, MO, died April 25, 2015, in the woods of his dad’s home in Lawrence, KS. He was born April 19, 1991, to Robert and Lana (Mall) Pendergast.
Spending much of his younger years in Parkville, MO, Tyler played baseball, loved Dragon Ball Z, jumped on the trampoline, and played with his dog, Buddy, often. One of his favorite things to eat for dinner was grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. His favorite restaurant was IHOP, where he loved the French toast. In middle school, Tyler became interested in guns and was very proficient shooting clay pigeons with a shotgun and hitting paper targets with a hand gun at the shooting range with his Dad. In high school, he self taught himself guitar, bass, and keyboard and played in a few bands. In addition, he became very interested in eating natural, healthy whole foods, leading to employment at area grocery stores. He graduated from Park Hill South High School in 2009.
After high school, he split his time between his mom’s house in Clay Center, KS, and his dad’s home in Parkville, MO and later Lawrence, KS. In Parkville, he and his dad would periodically meet for dinner, where they enjoyed eating Sushi. He spent time with Grandpa Lyle and Grandma Peggy out in the country of Tryon, NE, riding horses and growing a garden, which gave him much pleasure.
In his twenties, Tyler developed a strong faith in Jesus. It was also very peaceful for him to create intricate designs of artwork on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper with vibrant colors and symbolic written messages, mostly biblical. He also enjoyed walking in the woods, which is where he died.
Tyler is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Duane Mall. He leaves his mother and father; his sister, Jordan Pendergast; half siblings Ben, Sammy, and Bradley Pendergast; maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Mall; paternal grandmother, Florence Lavender; paternal grandfather and step grandmother, Lyle and Peggy Pendergast; his stepmom, Rebecca Pendergast; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Tyler’s life will be held at 11am May 9th at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clay Center, KS, 9th & Dexter. Minister: Pastor Paul Tessaro. (11am Respects, 12:30pm Service, 1pm Lunch, Stories, and Visiting)
We love and will miss you Tyler, but we find peace knowing that you are now with Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to Tyler Pendergast Memorial Fund sent in care of the funeral home.
